From Takayama

Takayama is connected by direct highway buses with Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Kanazawa, Matsumoto and other cities.

Because of Takayama's location in a mountain valley, access by bus is more direct and, therefore, faster and cheaper from certain cities, such as Kanazawa and Matsumoto, than access by train. Below are more details on selected routes:
