Self exploration of tokyo 2015/3/14 17:40
Hi

We are family of for planning to travel to japan in first week of April.

We have 1 complete day, 1evening(6pm onwards) and 1 afternoon(4p.m onwards) in tokyo. Our stay is at shinkuju.

We have listed out some places that we could find of our interest and not being covered on the official day tour of Tokyo.

They are
Tokyo Tower at night
Robot Restaurant
Tamagawadaishi-Gyokushinin
Shibuya Station Crossing
Nakamise Market
Akihabara Electric Town
Omotesando

Please suggest a suitable itenary(with the mode of transport) to cover these above places in the three time slots we have.
Also suggest some places which we might have left, or some of the above places which can be skipped.

Places which are already covered on our day tour are
Tokyo Tower in daylight, Meiji Shrine, Akasaka Guest House (No stop), National Diet Building (No stop), Imperial Palace East Garden, Ginza Shopping Area: drive Past, Hamarikyu garden ,30 minutes boat ride on the Sumida River ,Asakusa Kannon Temple ,Nakamise shopping street ,drive through Kappabashi area and Ueno and Akihabara.

Looking for some nice suggestions. Thankyou

Honest answer? Dump the official day trip, get up at dawn (not difficult if you have jet lag, you won't be sleeping anyway) and visit the places you most want to see via the world class rail network.

Akihabara is a must but best on a Sunday afternoon when pedestrianised. If you possibly can, re-arrange your trip to permit that, because it is a classic Japanese experience, AKB48 music blasting out from everywhere and maids advertising maid cafes.

Tokyo Tower is lovely anytime, but if size matters, you can now officially jump the queue at the SkyTree, as a tourist.

The Shibuya crossing is a must for the photo opportunity and experience and its good at night too when the neon is on and the place is buzzing.

Harajuku/Meiji Shrine/Yoyogi Park and Omotesando Street go together for a good morning or afternoon out, with lots of great places to eat and shop.

Sensoji is touristy but still worth a trip, Nakamise being a good place to pick up your souvenirs and taste some Japanese street food. It's also near the SkyTree.

For a wild card, head to Shin-Ōkubo after dark and enjoy a Korean meal in one of the many eateries there.

Probably not the answer that you were looking for, but you might enjoy suica-ing your way through the metro like a local more than sitting in a coach with a bunch of tourists.

Whatever you decide, enjoy.

I agree with David. Like, why bother driving through Kappabashi? There's no point; the beauty is in exploring all the shops and seeing all the cool stuff. You wont see anything from the street, so you might as well skip a drive through. Same with all the other drive bys... you see it from the outside, but you don't experience anything.

Take a turn on the Yamanote line. A few times you'll go by metro, but everything you want to see is all easy and fast to get to.
