Narita Kyoto transfer in Shinagawa?

I seem to have endless questions :( really appreciate your help!
I need to go directly from Narita airport to Kyoto after arriving from Canada at 4:00pmish. HyperDia.com says transfer at Shinagawa, instead of Tokyo station. Is it really easier to do that vs. Tokyo, which is the starting point of the train to Kyoto?
Thanks very much!

Yes it is easier to transfer at Shinagawa due to the relative locations of the tracks. At Tokyo the tracks are really far away from each other while at Shinagawa it is a very simple transfer.

Definitely change at Shinagawa: it is a much much easier, closer together, and less crowded, transfer than at Tokyo station.

it is always recommended to transfer at shinagawa for it's ease, the only time tokyo is better is if your travelling using unreserved seats. As your coming from the airport, you can get seat reservations at the same time as getting your shinkansen and nex tickets.
