snow or skiing near Tokyo on late October 2015/4/21 23:09
I would like to know where I can visit and hopefully ski on the last week of October. We are only beginner skiers. Preferably, it should only be a train ride away from Tokyo.

It will open earliest in Japan in October.

But,authentic ski season in Honshu of Japan will begin in late November.

Pretty much the only place open in October is Snow Town Yeti on Mount Fuji. It's a decent beginner resort, but unfortunately it's not that easy to get to. Rental car is easiest, but otherwise you can train to the nearest station and take a taxi from there. More info on this page:

Do note that most of the snow from Snow Town Yeti is man made - but as mentioned before it's basically the only place that will probably be open at that stage.

It's actually ALL man-made in October. Not even Hokkaido has snow that early. It's pretty much Yeti's gimmick. The next earliest resort (Prince Karuizawa) doesn't open until early November (also with man-made snow).
