Dear Sir/Mdm, We are travelling to Kyushu this May and will be taking Shinkansen train from Fukuoka to Kagoshima. We would appreciate if you can advise if 6-7 feet fishing rod tube/luggage be allowed into the train car.

JR's luggage rules state that each piece should be less than 250cm Length+Width+Height. So up to about an 8ft rod packed in a tube should theoretically be ok. The biggest problem will be getting through the doors, but if you can get on the train then it will fit in the overhead shelf found in most shinkansen cars.

Alternatively consider shipping via kuroneko. Should take about 3 days transit depending on where to where.

I have never seen a 6-7 feet fishing rod in one piece...what is wrong with rods in several pieces that screw into one another?

Bamboo rods of that length can be one piece for example. Maybe their rod is just long?
