Is JR pass worth it 2015/7/10 09:03
Hi,

I am travelling to Japan during October and have the following question.

Will the JR Pass be worth it for me and my partner if we buy the 7 day pass?

24/10/15 - Land in Tokyo - Activate card to use on the Airport Express (stay one night)
25/10/15 - Tokyo - Kyoto (stay for twonights and explore the city)
27/10/15 - Kyoto - Osaka (stay for three nights)
30/10/15 - Airport train to Kansai to leave Japan for Seoul

Total is 7 days. However, during the Osaka stay we plan to travel one day to Nara to see the deers and then one day we plan to travel to Kobe for some wagyu beef lunch. Do you think the JR Pass is worth it for us or should we just buy tickets as we travel?

We are returning to Tokyo at a later date, but the ticket will not be valid at this stage.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

No. A 7-day JR Pass makes sense if you do at least a "round-trip" on JR Shinkansen between Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka within that 7-day period. Both Osaka - Nara and Osaka - Kobe can be covered by local/rapid trains.
