Hello,
I plan to stay 5 days. If I am visiting Takayama, where else I can visit that is a close to the area? Also, what is the weather like in mid March . Please advise. Thank you.

Shirakawa is a World Heritage Site near Takayama. Very Old style Japanese Village.
It is chilly in March but not too bad. It is the mountain area so there are chances of snow.

Takayama is a nice hill station. If you want to visit their you can consult your nearest travel office.

Shirakawa as mentioned above, and I also really liked Gero which is a small onsen town along the way(from Nagoya). If you're going in October they have the Takayama matsuri.
