Nikko in mid-November – worth it?

Hey all,
I'm travelling to Japan in mid-November and thought Nikko would make a nice day trip from Tokyo. However, mid-November seems a bit late to see all the lovely autumn colours. Is the trip still worth it or am I better off going somewhere else to experience some beautiful scenery?
