Kyoto-Tokyo train 2011/7/11 12:42
Hi! I plan to go to Kyoto from Tokyo and from Kyoto to Kyoto and I researched for some train packages being offered and found two:

(1) Hikari Hayatoku Kippu
(2) Puratto Kodama Economy Plan

However, I still don't understand the difference between the two. Also, are the prices stated there only for one way trip?

What part don't you understand?

Also, are the prices stated there only for one way trip?

Yes.

the differences... 2011/7/11 13:04
With the "Hikari Hayatoku Kippu", you can travel between Tokyo and Kyoto by reserved seat on a Hikari train for only 11,500 yen, but the ticket has to purchased at least one week in advance.

With the "Puratto Kodama Economy Plan", you can travel between Tokyo and Kyoto by reserved seat on a Kodama train for only 9,800 yen, but the plan has to be purchased at least one day in advance.

The differences:
- price: 11,500 yen vs. 9,800 yen
- possible dates of purchase: at least one week in advance vs at least one day in advance
- type of train: hikari vs. kodama

There is one more difference, that is not mentioned above: the Puratto plan has to be purchased through a travel agent, e.g. JR Tokai Tours. It cannot be purchased at a regular JR ticket counter. The same is not true for the Hayatoku ticket.
