Something off-the-beaten-path 2011/9/7 21:49
Greetings,

I've visited most of the two and three dot places recommended by Japan Guide with exceptions to Okinawa and Yakushima.

I'm hoping to find some secret gems that most travelers skip or don't notice.

I lean more towards nature and cultural travel, because I love hauling out the heavy camera gear for photo moments.

That said, I was highly surprised by Wakayama and Mie. They offered so much little gems. But my favorite has to be Rishiri and Rebun so far. It's the best of the best in Japan, until I've seen Okinawa or Yakushima.

Thanks in advance!

I guess you have been to Dewa Sanzan, Osorezan and Hachimantai already then? They are some of my absolute favorites.

How about the other coast? 2011/9/8 11:25
Have you been to the Sea of Japan side? And in all seasons? Each season is different especially in colder places, and once you cross a big mountain the atmosphere totally changes.

short day trip from Osaka 2011/9/8 12:23

I keep recommending this as a short day 'hike"really a nice walk for ~8-10 klms at most. It was stunning in autumn foliage season, and we just loved it, taking a picnic with us and definitely being the only foreigners on the walk .

Southern Nara 2011/9/8 15:24
Soni Mura in Nara and maybe the Yamanobe no Michi?

Stay at Guesthouse Yougendo in Oji. The place is a real gem.

You are all awesome. Thanks for the recommendations! I'll make sure to check them all out.

Autumn is my favorite season, so I'm hoping some of these places will offer the autumn colors.

Thanks again!
