Day trip from Kanazawa to Shirakawa-go

I will be in Kanazawa for 3 days in mid-February and was wondering if a day trip to Shirakawa-go is both feasible and worth it (I have heard mixed opinions of Shirakawa-go).
Thank you in advance for your insight/advice!

Yes it is feasible and yes it is worth it I think.
You can catch the morning bus, spend around 4 hours there, and then catch the bus back. I have not been in winter but all the photos with the snow look great.
I think the museum in Shirakawago is well worth looking at and the view from the lookout would be very nice on a clear day too.
Obviously everything is personal but it always rates highly on here.
Depending on the rest of your itinerary you may wish to consider going Kanazawa - Shirakawago - Takayama
Enjoy your trip!

I suppose it will be absolutely thick with snow in Feb. I went at christmas and it was very snowy (and about minus 7 celsius) when Takayama was just getting flurries. I think it can get snowed in during January, not sure about Feb. It is a nice trip though, a bit of fun, and very pretty.

definately go. such a beautiful place. it is very cold in Feb, make sure you have enough clothing. May not be able to go to the top to see the whole view because of the snow. I went before, but will go again in Nov. relax your mind in such beautiful place.

Hi, I'm planning to go there early Dec, from Kanazawa to Shirakawa-go. Where should I make the reservation for the Nohi Bus? Where is the bus leaving from, is it from Kanazawa JR Station?
Thanks.

Where is the bus leaving from, is it from Kanazawa JR Station? You can make the reservation at Nohi Bus in Kanazawa it is outside the station and to the left of the main bus terminal area (past Starbucks). The buses leave from the circular bus terminal area just in front of JR Kanazawa station. If you need assistance the people at the Kanazawa Tourist Centre in JR Kanazawa station are very helpful! You can also contact Nohi Bus by phone:- http://www.nouhibus.co.jp/english/shirakawago_kanazawa.htmlI have no idea how good their English will be. Current timetable shows the 8:45am bus arrives in Shirakawago at 10am and the 1:50pm bus returns to Kanazawa at 3:05pm

I am also thinking of going from Kanazawa to Shirakawa-go this upcoming January (2012), but I read on two other sites that the bus from Kanazawa to Shirakawa (and Shirakawa to Kanazawa) didn't run during the winter.
I am tempted to say that this information is out of date. Because from the responses on this forum, it seems like there is bus service during winter. But I would just like to confirm definitively one way or the other that the bus service from Shirakwa to Kanazawa is active during winter - ie January. Thanks

These sites are out of date by about three years. Nowadays, the buses between Kanazawa, Shirakawago and Takayama run around the year.
