November 12 should be good. This is how it currently looks:

I think November as a whole is considered the best time to see it.

This is very interesting, I will be around Hakone in November 14th, and I also planned to see the pampas grass.
But I would travel with a rented car, and I don't see any parking lot around the pampas, or any information about it on the links.
Do you know any place where to park correctly the car around the grass?

Thanks,
PBY

There is a proper parking lot about a 5-10 minute walk from the grass, at the end of a side street. There should be signs.

Here is a link to a map that is centered on the parking lot:

When we went for the pampas grass a few years back, there were parking places on a side road running perpendicular to the grass field. The one we used is not a proper parking lot but just an empty ground converted as a make-shift parking place. It requires a slightly longer walk but parking is free. There were signs directing to the parking places so you would not miss them. When we went, there were many visitors so we just followed the crowd.

BTW, while we were there during early Oct, the pampas grass was much taller than those shown on the following:

Japanese pampas grass group shining with gold of Hakone Sengokuhara is in full bloom now.I think you can see until middle of Nov.
By the way, I recommend Cyoanji-temple,Sengokuhara if you watch colored leaves. Best season is from the beginning of November to the middle of November.

There is a promenade in a grassy plain and you can enjoy a Japanese pampas grass and the fantastic view of Hakone Mountains.

Does one hike or merely walk through the pampas grass?

Is there one or multiple trails and how long will it take to go through?

Thanks.
