Try the Chuo Group, they have a number hotels just south of Namba (about 2km):

Basic single rooms from around 2,000 yen to 3,800 Yen for en suite at weekends at the Selene.

I stayed at Guestouse KOMA in Osaka for 3 nights last winter. It was a decent place to stay. I'm guessing it would have been more fun if there were some more people there. Two out of 3 nights I was like on of the only guests. But since Osaka isn't a very touristic place it may be normal during the off-season.

Apart from it being a bit boring it was a very good place to stay. Cheap, clean, located 2 minutes away from a smaller subway station and 10 minutes walking distance from the Namba Station. Another 10 minutes walking and you're at dotombori ;)

I heard there is one called "hotel le botejur namba" in the middle of Namba which is the most interesting place in Minami area and also very close to the local market and nerd street. Budget was not so bad. Check it!

I also recommend Osaka Guesthouse Koma, you can book here http://www.travelaholics.com/bed-and-breakfasts/japan/osaka/osakaguest... . Great location, just a few minutes from Namba, friendly staff, kitchen plus free internet.
