My son is stationed at Sasebo Naval Base. His wife is flying over in February. Is it better to fly or take a train?

The quickest/cheapest is to fly by adding the domestic leg to Nagasaki to the international ticket. http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2364.htmlI often add to my United flight from San Francisco the 11,000yen ANA(Star Alliance with UAL) domestic flight from Narita to go home in Fukuoka. If she wants to travel around later, she can get JRPass before arriving in Japan.
