JR Pass or local travel card?

Hi..I will be spending time in Tokyo mainly, with one side trip to Hakone. I will be in Tokyo for 7 days in total. Is it better to get the local travel card or the JR Pass?
If its the local travel card, which one is recommended, as I will likely be switching to different lines around the city.
Thanks

Do not get a JR Pass (JPY28,300) for the time you'd be in Tokyo. Pay as you go with a SUICA card... http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_002.htmlAs far as your trip to Hakone, some of it wouldn't be on JR lines, so even that wouldn't be worth it. The JR Pass only pays off if you go a long distance on a round trip, minimum distance is Kyoto or Osaka and back.
