14 day itinerary. What to do? 2012/1/25 17:48
My partner and i are going to japan in a few weeks .. arriving on the 6th of feb.

We are finding it very difficult to know where to go and what to do ...

Our plan so far is to stay in tokyo for 7 nights .. and do day trips ect. we are open for recommendations..

Then after staying seven nights in tokyo we were thinking about going to hakaba to go skiing for 2 days ... from there we have know clue on what to do and where to go .. PLEASE HELP !!!

What would you suggest for a couple that loves an adventure (we wanna see as much as we can while we are over there) , luxury, shopping, cold weather aka SNOW and a good time !!!

as we are extremely excited to visit JAPAN !!

Hi there. From Tokyo it is definitely worth doing one day visits to Nikko, Kamakura (ancient capital) and perhaps Hakone to view Mt Fuji.

From Hakaba there are some good posibilties - the Japanese Alps are spectacular. Not quite sure what the weather will be like. The skyline road will be closed for sure -but that shouldnt stop you from getting to places like Matsumoto (great Castle), and Magome/ Tsumago which is a beautful old valley. Takayama is also definitely be worth a visit.

However, would be a shame to leave japan and not see Kyoto. That is a must do if you can.

If you stay in Nagano area:

- Togakushi shrine (2000 years old? who knows?) in Togakushi
- Zenko-ji temple (1400 years old) in Nagano city
- Matsumoto castle (some 400 years) in Matsumoto city
- Suwa-taisha shrine (1500 years old or more) in Suwa city
- Bessho onsen (1000 years old) in Ueda city

Besindes just skiing, there should be many snow (shoe) walking events available in Hakuba area. It is an adventure in the snow mountains and forests. You must check it with your hotel in Hakuba.

Nagano area is famous for soba noodles. Try it for sure.
