1 or 2 week stay in Toyko 2012/3/28 08:26
I'm going to Tokyo in late November, and I have two different options. I can either stay in a luxury hotel in a great location for one week, or go for two weeks in a budget hotel in a worse location. The luxury one costs 10% less. What should I do?

Thanks in advance :)

hmmm, I'd take the budget hotel. We usually mix it up and stay in some lux, some less. the lux ones are easy, but because everyone tends to speak english you miss out on half of the fun. For example we stayed at Shiba Hotel at Shiba Park, which was a little tired and cost less than $200 per night per room, and I had a ball. Next time we stayed at the Hyatt at Shinjuku which cost around $350 per room per night from memory, frankly I far preferred Shiba Park.

Two weeks in Tokyo would be too long for me. Therefore, I would go for the 1-week luxury option. Or better: go budget and explore some other regions of Japan instead of just Tokyo.

Spend one week in Tokyo in the budget hotel, then spend one week in a budget hotel in Osaka.

Late November is perfect for Autumn colours in Kyoto and nearby areas, all easy day trips from Osaka.

You can use overnight buses to travel between the Tokyo and Osaka. This also saves overnight accommodation.

apart from sleeping, you will spend only a couple of hours a day in the hotel - so why spend a lot? toyoko inn at 6-8k yen is more than good enough.
