Aki Basho 2017 - Day 15
Kitakachiyama suffered a heavy defeat against Flohru but Sebunshu was unable to capitalise and also lost so congratulations to Kitakachiyama on his fourth Makuuchi yusho.
Hakubayama won out in the Juryo yusho decider. And Kazutoyama won easily to finish 13-2 in Makushita and can expect a nice boost up into the Juryo division in November.
Ozeki Pandaazuma lost and will return to sekiwake. He can go back to the ozeki rank if he gets ten wins next tournament.
Congratulations to all the winners and see you all in two months.

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 14
Kitakachiyama finally broke free of a tenacious Sebunshu and now has sole possession of the lead going into the final day. He will take his fourth Makuuchi yusho if he defeats Flohru. Sebunshu will be hoping for a win of his own as well as a favour from the German gaming veteran. He has a one point advantage in a tie-break and so can afford to score one less point than Kitakachiyama tomorrow in this scenario.
Juryo is a lot simpler: The two leaders Chankoyama and Hakubayama meet each other in a yusho decider.
Kazutoyama has lost two but is still ahead. If they win tomorrow, the prize is there, but a loss could bring about a multi-player tie-break. However, only Anjoboshi and Mariohana can hope to match the long-time leader on points scored.
And finally, Ozeki Pandaazuma needs to beat top Sekiwake Ganzonehsushi tomorrow to retain his rank. If he loses, he will have a chance to regain the rank with ten wins in November.

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 11
The co-leaders Kitakachiyama and Sebunshu won again and are rewarded for their fine play with a trip up the banzuke from tomorrow to face sanyaku opponents. Komusubi Kuroimori is one of them, and he is only one win off the pace, so that's a big match.
Chankoyama, Jakusotsu and Hakubayama all came through day 11 intact and are the leaders. Three hopefuls are on their tail. And Kazutoyama makes it 11-0 so maintain a two-win gap over three pursuers in Makushita.

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 10
Sebunshu defeated a yusho rival for the second straight day and joins Kitakachiyama at the top of the leader board. The chasing group has only one sanyaku representative, Komusubi Kuroimori, who lost today.
Quite remarkably, all five leaders in Juryo won and can celebrate early winning records. And it's another win for Kazutoyama in Makushita. 10-0 now.
by Pandaazuma, 2017/9/19

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 9
Sebunshu duly took down the sole leader Kitakachiyama after yet another unpredictable day and joins him along with three other 7-2 players.
The sole leader in Juryo Frinkanohana also lost and he is also now part of a group of five leaders. And Kazutoyama stays imperious, now two wins ahead of the field in Makushita.
by Pandaazuma, 2017/9/18

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 8
Sebunshu slipped up today, allowing Kitakachiyama to take the sole lead. Sebunshu can make up for the disappointment as they meet each other tomorrow.
Frinkanohana was the only one of the Juryo leaders to win and so he takes the lead. And Kazutoyama is the only remaining unbeaten player, sitting pretty atop the Makushita division.
Ozeki promotion/demotion news: The two sekiwake players both lost and will now almost certainly have to postpone their promotion bids. Ozeki Pandaazuma won for the second straight day and now needs four out of seven to stay where he is.
by Pandaazuma, 2017/9/17

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 7
Things are taking shape now as Kitakachiyama and Sebunshu take the Makuuchi lead with 6-1 records.
In Juryo the two leaders Chisaiyama and Jakusotsu lost, letting in two other rivals. And we find the remaining two undefeated players in Makushita, where Kazutoyama and Gonzaburow keep up the good work.
On the ozeki front, Sekiwake Kogaratsu's excellent start has gone downhill big time and he has lost two straight days, meaning he now needs to win out for the promotion. Sekiwake Ganzohnesushi also needs to win out, but he's putting up a fight, winning the last two days convincingly. Kadoban Ozeki Pandaazuma defeated Norizo today to go 3-4. He now needs 5 wins out of 8 to keep his rank.

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 5
The madness rolls on and on as total unpredictability reigns. With an average of 3.95, today was the 13th lowest-scoring day in Sumo Game history, and who would bet against a day or two more sub-four averages? This tournament is already a contender for the lowest average score of all time.
Sekiwake Kogaratsu, however, is dealing with the uncertainty in style as he stays perfect and keeps his ozeki promotion dreams alive for one more day. It's the polar opposite for Sekiwake Ganzohnesushi, who now needs to win every single day. Kadoban Ozeki Pandaazuma picked up a second win today but is still very much up against the tide.
Chisaiyama and Jakusotsu lead Juryo with perfect records. And we're down to four in Makushita, including veteran Gonzaburow.
What will tomorrow bring?
by Pandaazuma, 2017/9/14

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 4
The madness continues and it's reflected in the scores once again. Sekiwake Kogaratsu keeps his winning streak going for a fourth day. He is joined at the top of the leader board by Haruibono and now needs 9 out of 11 wins for ozeki promotion, still a very tall order. Sekiwake Ganzohnesushi's misery continued into day four and he now needs a very strong finish to have a hope of promotion.
Juryo is still led by the same group of four. And Makushita has been whittled down to nine undefeated players.
by Pandaazuma, 2017/9/13

Aki Basho 2017 - Day 3
Welcome all to the Aki Basho. With a sanyaku average of 5.76, it's clear that there is plenty of uncertainty on the dohyo, not surprising with so many big names out. Luck will be a major factor for all players this time.
Ozeki Pandaazuma is kadoban this basho and is off to a mediocre 1-2 start. He needs 8 to keep his rank. Sekiwake Ganzohnesushi is on an ozeki run and needs 11 but has had the worst possible start and is yet to win. Sekiwake Kogaratsu is also on a run and needs 13 to get the bump up...and he will be hopeful of keeping his perfect start going.
In Makuuchi we have only four unbeaten players, including former Ozeki Norizo. It's the same story in Juryo. Makushita is the usual mass of hopefuls at this early stage.
Good luck to all the players this tournament!
