Haru Basho 2022 - Day 15
Athenayama held his nerve and won the Makuuchi yusho in only his second tournament in the big time. Congratulations! He should enjoy a nice bump up the rankings in May.
In Juryo Unkonoyama and Kotoroiwa both finished with 12-3 records and identical scores and so we go to the direct bout between them that was won by Unkonoyama on day 12. He takes the yusho!
Makushita was a lot simpler. Balon was the only player to reach 13 wins. That's a second Makushita yusho and a likely promotion to Juryo in the offing.
Congratulations to all the winners. See you all back here in May!

Haru Basho 2022 - Day 14
It was complete carnage on the dohyo today and some navigated it better than others.
Of the three leaders only Athenayama came through with a win. However, he faces Komusubi Survivor on the final day and will need to win as they are even on points, meaning that if he loses he will be eliminated in a yusho play-off. Ozeki Kakushoyamaii and Kazutoyama are also ahead on points and they could capitalize on a loss by the leader. The pressure is on!
In Juryo Unkonoyama is leading but Golynohama is one win behind but one point ahead. If Unkonoyama wins, he will take the big prize. If he loses, it will depend on Golynohana's score (assuming he wins). Kotoroiwa is still in it mathematically but would need to massively outscore his rivals.
And thanks to losses by the leaders, it's a gigantic free-for-all in Makushita. Balon has a slight points advantage, but long-time leader Kichijiro along with Shokoki are also well up there.
Good luck to all the contenders!

Haru Basho 2022 - Day 13
Komusubi Survivor lost again and allowed Kazutoyama and Athenayama back into the yusho lead. With five players in the chasing pack, this is still extremely open.
Unkonoyama won to take the sole lead in Juryo as rival Kotoroiwa lost. And in Makushita Kichijiro fell at last to defeat. Hoshotakamoto takes his place alongside him.

Haru Basho 2022 - Day 12
Komusubi Survivor slipped up on a tricky day and allowed the chasing group of Kazutoyama, Chocshoporyu and Athenayama to move within one win. Still very open with three days to go.
Unkonoyama has emerged as the sole Juryo leader on 10-2 with the help of an eight-win streak. Golynohana and Kotoroiwa are one win behind. And Kichijiro's majestic unbeaten run continued. He has yet to shake off stubborn pursuers Balon and Hoshotakamoto.

Haru Basho 2022 - Day 10
Another win for Komusubi Survivor puts him firmly in the driver's seat with a two-win cushion over the chasing field, who all lost. He will face one of that field tomorrow: Ozeki Kakushoyamaii.
In Juryo Golynohana suffered another defeat and he now shares the lead with Unkonoyama and Kotoroiwa. In Makushita Inunoyama finally lost while Kichijiro improved to a tenth win out of ten. Seven players are just one win behind the leader so this is still very open.

Haru Basho 2022 - Day 9
Komusubi Survivor got back to winning ways as his closest rival Athenayama had a bit of a nightmare. The komusubi is alone in the lead with a 9-1 record. Sekiwake ScreechingOwl and Komusubi Yamashiro are part of the chasing group of four.
In Juryo Golynohana lost today but retains sole lead. And the same two leaders from yesterday won again in Makushita to remain perfect. Who will crack first out of Inunoyama and Kichijiro? A large chasing group of ten will be hopeful for such a breakthrough.

Haru Basho 2022 - Day 8
Nakabi (Day 8) is in the books. Sole leader Komusubi Survivor forgot to enter a line-up and duly lost both the match and his position all alone up front. Athenayama was the only pursuer to take advantage and he now shares the lead at 6-1.
Golynohana prevailed in a close bout to remain unbeaten in the Juryo lead. Kotoroiwa is one off the pace. Inunoyama and Kichijiro are the leaders of Makushita with perfect records.

Haru Basho 2022 - Day 5
Komusubi Survivor leads Makuuchi along with Kuroimori on day 5, both with perfect records. Sekiwake ScreechingOwl and Komusubi Yamashiro are in the chasing field.
Golynohana is in the sole (unbeaten) lead in Juryo. He was a sekiwake back in the mists of time and has rocketed up the banzuke since his return to the action in 2019. Six unbeaten hopefuls lead Makushita.

Haru Basho 2022 - Day 2
Welcome to the Haru basho of Sumo Game 2022.
Sekiwake ScreechingOwl and Komusubi Survivor are the only unbeaten sanyaku representatives after two days.
All three sekiwake are on ozeki runs. Flohru (1-1) needs twelve wins while Trender (0-2) needs eleven. ScreechingOwl is off to the best start but he needs thirteen. This means all hopefuls need 11 wins out of the remaining 13 days to get the bump up.
Good luck to all the players!
