The Makushita yusho was randomly decided in favor of m46 Ketsukai. I believe it is the second time that a yusho had to be determined randomly. It also happened in the 2018 Nagoya Basho.

Hatsu Basho 2025 - Day 15

Yamashiro came through the final day with ease to take his third Makuuchi yusho by two clear wins. He can enjoy a nice jump up the banzuke in March!

In Juryo three out of the five hopefuls won their bouts today. Genya won the tie-break by virtue of his superior score.

And we have a very unusual situation in Makushita. As with Juryo, three of the five contenders won. Ketsukai and Sasuke both scored the same, and also did not meet each other in the tournament. Further, they scored exactly the same 8+, 5- and perfect days and therefore, for the first time as far as I know, the yusho will be determined randomly. The gamesmaster will announce the winner in due course. Amazing!

Hatsu Basho 2025 - Day 14

Yamashiro won again and is one win ahead of Trender and Andrasoyama. None of these three fight each other on the final day. A win for Yamashiro would mean yusho. A loss would allow his rivals in. Trender is slightly ahead in scoring and Andrasoyama is even so a tie-break scenario could be very close.

Juryo is very open as the five leaders have 9-5 records. Shironami is four points ahead of the others so advantage to him!

It's a similar story in Makushita. Five leaders and plenty of permutations in play. A tie-break again looks very likely here. Terarno is one ahead of Sasuke in that regard.

A special mention to Chocshoporyu, who leads Makuuchi in scoring and is second in all divisions but is now 5-9. I've seen some terrible luck in this game over the years but that is a contender for the worst of all time.

Hatsu Basho 2025 - Day 13

Yamashiro returned to winning ways to go one win clear in the yusho race. Ozeki Kakushoyamaii lost today and he joins a chasing group of six, each with nine wins.

Genda and Chindonya now lead Juryo with 9-6 records. And Terarno is still clear in Makushita. With his high scoring, one more win may be enough.

Hatsu Basho 2025 - Day 11

The top two on the leaderboard lost but Yamashiro retains sole lead. Ozeki Kakushoyamaii is part of a gang of four one win behind.

Chindonya lost in Juryo and is joined now by Hagenosenshi, both with 8 wins. Terarno now leads the Makushita division all by himself with a 10-1 record.

Hatsu Basho 2025 - Day 10

Yamashiro won again to go 9-1. His closest challenger is Trender, who has eight wins. The closest sanyaku player is Ozeki Kakushoyamaii, who has had a strong basho and needs only one more win for kachikoshi.

Chindonya now leads alone in Juryo. Hagenosenshi is one win behind. Terarno and Ketsukai head Makushita with 9-1 records. A group of six is on their tail.

Hatsu Basho 2025 - Day 6

With day six in the books Yokozuna Yumezukuri is in the lead with Natsunoyama, Andoreasu and Yamashiro.

Chelseayama, Hagenosenshi head Juryo with five wins. And the only remaining unbeaten players lead Makushita: Hunterbeagle and Owll. They sound like natural enemies to me.

Hatsu Basho 2025 - Day 3

Welcome all players to a new year of Sumo Game!

Ozeki Kakushoyamaii is off to a fine unbeaten start. He heads a group of seven that includes Komusubi Sumio.

Five players remain unbeaten in Juryo; seventeen in Makushita!

There are no major promotion prospects on the banzuke this tournament but the Ozeki will be hoping for a good tournament in order to make a bid for Yokozuna next time.
