2009/04/14 - Cherry Blossom Report: Kobe
Sumaura Park
April 14, 2009 - beyond peak
Sumaura Park is located west of central Kobe. It consists of an upper area and a lower area. The upper area leads up a mountain, the lower area is flat along the mountain's base. There are approximately 3600 cherry trees between the two areas.
There are very few cherry blossoms on the trees in the lower area. There is probably very little time left for the few cherry blossoms that remain. Only a handful of trees still have significant number of flowers. For somewhat better flowers, it is possible to go to the upper area of the park, though it is still significantly beyond peak.
Oji Zoo
April 14, 2009 - end of season
Oji Zoo has about 480 cherry trees lining the paths between the various animal exhibitions. When they are in bloom they make an impressive canopy.
There is little left of the cherry blossom season at Oji Zoo. The flowers that once hung impressively overhead are now trampled over, as thousands of petals now cover the paths. Very few petals are still on the trees, and soon the ones on the ground will be swept away.
