2011/02/08 - Otaru Yuki Akari no Michi 2011
The 13th Yuki Akari no Michi Festival (Snow Light Path Festival) in Otaru began last Friday and will continue until Sunday, February 13. Located north of the concurrent Sapporo Snow Festival, Otaru's festival offers travelers in Hokkaido another opportunity to enjoy the snow.
While not as large or well known as Sapporo's festival, the Yuki Akari no Michi festival has a very pleasant atmosphere that is more subdued. During the course of the festival, snow lanterns are placed around the city and illuminated during the evening between 17:00 and 21:00. There are two areas where the lanterns are most densely located: between city streets at the Temiyasen Kaijo area and along Otaru's canals at the Unga Kaijo area . Both areas can be reached by foot from the Otaru train station. Below are some photos from our visit to the festival yesterday night.
