2012/04/28 - Cherry Blossom Report: Takizakura
Miharu Takizakura
April 28, 2012 - full bloom
Four days after our first visit to the Miharu Takizakura in Fukushima Prefecture, I revisited what I consider Japan's most beautiful tree. Despite the recent bad weather, the tree has progressed into full bloom today and should remain at the peak of its seasonal beauty for several days to come.
Today was the start of the Golden Week, one of Japan's busiest travel periods. The combination of Golden Week, good weather and the Takizakura in full bloom promised Miharu Town to become extraordinarily crowded. Therefore, I arrived at the tree as early as 5:30am, where I encountered "only" a 30 minute traffic jam ahead of the parking lot - nothing compared to the waiting times expected later during the day.
Public transportation to the tree is provided by a temporary shuttle bus service from JR Miharu Station through April 30. Afterwards, there will be only taxis and infrequent town buses that run on an indirect route between Miharu Station and the Takizakura.
