July 15, 2016 - Hokkaido Day 14 - End of the Trip and My Top Five Highlights
My final day in Hokkaido has come and it was time to bid the prefecture farewell as I was scheduled to head back to the airport to fly back home.
With the power of the Hokkaido Rail Pass, I tried to book a reserved seat on the Super Kamui back to Sapporo but the train was apparently fully booked out. However, I managed to get myself a reserved seat from Sapporo to Shin-Chitose, which was a life saver for me as the airport trains were really full and travelers were even forced to stand in the reserved seating area.
All in all, I had a fantastic time in Hokkaido and I considered myself to be very fortunate that the weather was sunny and gorgeous throughout my time here. It was really worth it going off the beaten track, venturing out into the less touristy spots with the power of the Hokkaido Rail Pass. However, I kind of find Hokkaido to be more expensive than other parts of the country mostly due to its infrequent and pricey public transportation system and long distances between places. I only made modest savings with the Hokkaido Rail Pass due to the absence of the Shinkansen.
Without further ado, here are my top five highlights of this trip.
