May 1, 2015 - Wisteria Festival in Fujioka
Gunma Prefecture Fujioka City's annual "Fuji Matsuri", or Wisteria Festival. It is usually held from the end of April to the beginning of May, and includes many different kinds and colors of wisteria, plus several hundred meters of trellises. During the peak of the festival, you can buy Fujioka and Wisteria-related goods and even small wisteria vines.
Along with the wisteria, the last of the shibazakura were also very nice:
The festival is held on "Fuji-no-Saku-Oka", a good 30 minutes or more walk from Gunma-Fujioka Station on the Hachiko Line. The easiest way to reach the area from Tokyo is to take the Takasaki (Ueno-Tokyo) Line to Kuragano Station, then transfer to the Hachiko Line. From the station, it is easiest to take a taxi, but there are also infrequent buses.
