August 30, 2015 - Southern Kyushu: Miyazaki City
I visited the prefectures of Kagoshima, Kumamoto, and Miyazaki in a week-long vacation to Southern Kyushu. My last day was spent in Miyazaki City before heading home on a late afternoon flight.
After waking up, checking out, and leaving our luggage at the hotel, we first took a once-hourly train from Miyazaki City one stop over to see Miyazaki Shrine, the Prefectural Museum, and Heiwadai Park.
The shrine was a really nice one. I liked the forest and grounds it and the Prefectural Museum share.
One surprising thing was that even in the central station, automatic ticket machines were nowhere to be found! Instead, a station attendant stood at both entrances stamping tickets! At the small station in front of the shrine, there wasn't anyone there. I'm not sure if there was a box to turn in tickets or if I was supposed to just keep it, but oh well!
From the shrine we walked to Heiwadai Park, which took almost 30 minutes. It was hot and we were starting from the far corner of the shrine. The park was very nice. We saw the Haniwa Garden which was very cute, then ate lunch at a restaurant there.
After lunch, we walked back to the Prefectural Museum to hang out until our next train, since it was free. I actually thought it was a really great museum, with lots of interesting exhibits, and I recommend it if you are seeing the shrine or park already.
After heading back to Miyazaki Station, we grabbed our luggage, bought omiyage for people, then headed to the airport to fly back to Tokyo.
Kyushu, you're awesome!
