Stefan Schauwecker grew up in Zurich, Switzerland and met his interest in Japan when studying in Vancouver, Canada. There, he founded japan-guide.com in 1996 before moving the website's operation to Japan in 2003.

Raina Ong
Raina is a writer for japan-guide.com. She grew up in Singapore and lived in Australia before moving to Japan in 2007 where she got trapped. Food is never far from her mind and she loves checking out restaurants across the country. After conquering all 47 prefectures, her current goal is to visit as many islands and peninsulas in Japan.

Charles Sabas
Charles grew up near Paris, France and moved to Japan in 2014 after a two week trip where he fell in love with the country, the people and its traditions.
His interest for Japan started after watching the Ozu Yasujiro movie "Tokyo Story", and he has since developed a passion for Japanese old movies. Charles is a "travel for food" type of person, and enjoys bonding with the locals at an izakaya around a delicious meal and with some refreshing beer.

Originally from the UK, Matt first came to Japan in 2009 and ended up staying for a little over six years in the Kansai area. After a three-year stint working in the travel industry, he is now back and works as a staff writer for japan-guide.com. As well as history and traditional arts and crafts, he is especially passionate about the outdoors and looks forward to exploring Japan’s wilder places.

Thomas Rönnlund
Thomas grew up in Uppsala, Sweden and originally came to Japan in 2011 for language studies. Living in the country, he developed his interests further and is always looking out for new tasty foods, outdoor activities and onsen baths. After some years working and studying within tourism, he returned in 2020 to travel the country, exploring the urban cities and rural landscapes through the lens of the camera.
