Multi day hiking in late May 2024/4/17 02:27
Seeking advice on supported mountain trekking in late May. Originally I had planned hiking from Kamikochi to Chogatake and then to Enzanso. But I understand that this may be dangerous / undoable in late May due to snow and ice.

Is this correct?

If so can anyone suggest an alternative route involving a mountain hut stay (2-3-4 days)? Or hiking with village support? I would prefer more remote walking rather than walking on roads and I will not be carrying tent or cooking gear. I am an experienced trekker after many visits to Nepal (up to 6000m) but i have no mountaineering experience. And I have completed Kumano Kodo Kohechi.

Thanking in advance of any information.

Without snow gear your options are very limited in May. All the alpine peaks have snow and the majority of huts are closed.

Your best option is probably to go south to Kyushu.
Kujurenzan has hut that is open for example and the trail network is quite big. Can definitely fill 2-3 days.

Also nice is Yakushima, the inside of the island has unmanned shelter huts so youfll only need a sleeping bag/mat. Lots of hiking there, but for most youfll need to rent a car.
