Ryokan, onsen, itinerary 2011/7/19 00:16
Hi all,

We are planning to summit Mt. Fuji over two days (one night on the mountain). The second day, after descending, we'd like to stay somewhere nearby before leaving for Kyoto in the morning.

Based on my reading, the best way is to take the Fujikyu bus down from the Mt Fuji 5th station to Asahigaoka (Lake Yamanakako) and stay there the night, before leaving for Mishima via bus in the morning. Then we can take the JR train from Mishima to Kyoto.

Does this make sense as an itinerary? If so, do you have any recommendations on where to spend the night near Lake Yamanakako? Do you know when/where we would buy these bus tickets and rail tickets?

If not, what would be a better/faster/cheaper way of getting to Kyoto?

Thanks!!!!

There are a lot of nice ryokan with onsen around the Fuji Five Lakes. I recommend a ryokan on the northeastern shores of Lake Kawaguchiko, in particular, because they have views of the lake and mountain:

Then, you can take the bus to Mishima the next morning:

The most efficient way in terms of transportation would be descending the mountain via the Fujinomiya trail rather than the Yoshida trail, and then take a bus from the Fujinomiya 5th Station to Fuji City, from where the shinkansen runs to Kyoto. However, Fuji City is an industrial city without onsen ryokan.
