Senganen
March 25, 2009 - opening (10-50%)
Senganen Garden is a reconstructed feudal residence and garden located just north of Kagoshima City. There are about 400 cherry trees around the gardens. The trees can be enjoyed while strolling through the grounds, although it is not possible to hold cherry blossom viewing parties (hanami) here.
Most of the cherry trees at Senganen are of the early blooming kanhizakura variety which has dark pink blossoms that open in early March. These trees have reached the end of their season and their blossoms are no longer visible.
There are a few dozen of the more common somei yoshino variety of cherry trees around the gardens of Senganen. About half of these trees have yet to open, while the other half are opening and will reach full bloom after a few more days. However the weather forecast predicts cool temperatures and a high chance of rain over the weekend which may delay the full opening of the cherry blossoms.
Yoshino Park
March 25, 2009 - full bloom
Yoshino Park is a large city park in northern Kagoshima City. There are over 800 cherry trees throughout the park, most of which are in a grove at the north east corner of the park providing the ideal spot to hold cherry blossom viewing parties.
The trees here reportedly reached full bloom yesterday, and should maintain their peak for a few more days. Unfortunately, there is a high chance of rain over the weekend which may adversely affect the season at Yoshino Park.
