What about J. encephalitis?

Dear Sirs,
Imagining to plan a journey to Japan someday in the future, I would like to ask for the following
queries.
For travellers between their fifties and sixties supposing to stay abroad for about a couple of weeks
during the summer season:
- how high / low is the risk of getting Japanese encephalitis staying in Japan?
- how much is it recommended for them to avoid marshes, rice fields, breeding farms and so on and
which parts of the country (if any) had they better keep off ?
- Do only the tourists remaining within the urban boundaries not need to get vaccinated against that
illness?
Could you please substantiate your answer ?
Thank you very much.
Yours,
Francesco

The risk of contracting Japanese encephalitis is extremely low. Just normal tourist travel will not need the vaccination; it's only recommended if you are going to be spending a lot of time in rural areas, particularly in summer when the mosquitoes will be more active. You should be fine.
