Kumano Kodo - which part and how rainy? 2015/4/3 05:26
Hy there!

I'm planning a trip to Japan in June. I've been reading up on the Kumano Kodo and decided I want to spend some days on the region and do some walking. I have a couple of questions though, if anyone could please help me:

1- According to my calculations, I can only spend 2 or three days there if I still wwant to see all the rest that I'm planning. So I was thinking either walking Takajiri-Ori to Hongu Taisha in 2 days and go to the other shrines on a third day, by bus, or walking Hosshinmon-oji to Nachi Taisha through Koguchi. Which one do you think is more awesome?

2- I've heard that June is the rainy season, and qs qondering how much does it effectively rain and if it is a bad time to go there

Thanks heaps in advance :)

Doing either of those courses in two days would be challenging. Possible, but challenging. June is the rainy season. It will be cool and humid or hot and humid, and perhaps raining. A sweaty time to hike!

June is hard to read in terms of weather. It can be quite variable from year to year. Here is a page with some overall weather data for the area, and links to weather forecast sites.

Here is a list of some possible walking itineraries on the Kumano Kodo. If you contact the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau (the official local tourism office), they also give very good advise.
