7-day itinerary Tokyo to Osaka 2015/6/1 23:19
Day 1 Tokyo
Day 2 Lake Kawaguchiko
Day 3 Hakone
Day 4-7 Osaka

We've been to Tokyo already but we plan to stay over night so we can visit places that we've not been to and do some shopping. Is it worth staying overnight in Lake Kawaguchiko and Hakone area? Or just choose to stay in one of those area? Planning to buy JR pass. Easiest way Hakone to Osaka? or Kawaguchiko area to Osaka? Suggestions would be appreciated

A JR Pass would not pay for itself. Kawagukchi-ko is accessed by a non-JR rail line at the end (Fujikyu line), Hakone's trains are all non-JR (Odakyu Line), leaving you with Tokyo to Odawara and Odawara to Osaka for big ticket JR Rail Pass use. It's Y12,620 for the long trip on a Shinkansen from Odawara to Osaka, and a 7-day pass is Y29,110, with the only other large chunk possibly being a Shinkansen from Tokyo to Odawara (Hakone). It would take a lot of local and express trains to use up the rest of the pass.

As for visiting Kawaguchi-ko and Hakone, both give good views of Fuji on a clear day. Hakone has a lot more tourists and is set up for Japanese to take a break from Tokyo.
