Transfer time at Tokyo Station 2024/3/15 09:32
We are a group of 3 aged persons ( plus luggage ) with one having limited mobility
We are booked to arrive at Tokyo Station via Sobu Line (Rapid) at 09.45am and transfer to Shinkansen
KODAMA717 departing 10.27am

Can anyone tell me if there are lifts available between floors and if 40 mins ample time to transfer

Definitely more than enough time. And yes there are slopes and elevators (and escalators). Sometimes it can be quite a walk to get to the elevator. If escalator is an option thatfs easier.

If you are concerned about the luggage maybe consider shipping it to next hotel by Takyubin

Sobu line platform is in the deep underground floor, so you must go up to the Tokaido Shinkansen ticket gate.

This movie shows how to go. But honestly you can't (I can't) follow exactly :). You should know:

Go up three times with escalator.

Follow the overhead signage showing the pictograms of Shinkansen like this.

It will take 5-10 min to go to the Shinkansen platform.

I cannot find this train.
From what station do you take this train?
Maybe it's not a Sobu Rapid.

You can make a simpler and quicker transfer at Shinagawa Station.

Shinagawa Station has one Shinkansen zone;
you just follow signs for the Shinkansen.

Tokyo Station has two separate Shinkansen zones;
you have to find the correct gate, watching signs carefully.

Sings with blue-and-white Shinkansen pictograms
lead you to the Tokaido Shinkansen transfer gate.

Those green-and-white Shinkansen pictograms
are used for the other Shinkansen zone.
(The upper one is not anymore seen there in Tokyo Station, I think.)

In a photo on this blog,
you see Shinkansen pictograms of the above two color types,
which are currently used there.

Here is a full map of the station:

It can be a pretty daunting station to get through. Maybe this helps you to find the correct route to your next platform in one go.

From the Sobu Line it is really well signposted in Japanese and English. It will take 10 minutes, and the route is accessible (escalators and depending on route, a ramp).
