From Osaka to Wakayama during Golden Week

Anyone here has ever travelled to Wakayama by car from Osaka during the Golden Week? I have plans to go to Wakayama during the GW peak season (May 2 - May 4) by car and I want to know whether anyone has ever done this before. Any tips to avoid traffic or what time is best to depart from Osaka from May 2nd?

Any answers welcome! (a little bit off-topic from the specified destination is also OK, just send me info on traffic details during the GW by car!)

May 2 is still a work day for many office workers.
However, the Hanwa toll way may be crowded because many people want to go to Shirahama during GW.
Depending on the exact destination, the route 26 is one of options near Wakayama city.

If you mean Shirahama or Kushimoto by Wakayama not Wakayama city, the only way is leave in the early morning or at night, I guess.
If you mean Wakayama city, my favorite place is Tomogashima.
