takayama to magome?

Hi all,
I�fm travelling to Japan for the first time in September.
We are headed to Matsumoto then hope to visit kamikochi on the way to takayama.
From takayama, we are next staying in magome.
It seems complicated to get from Takayama to Magome. My initial plan was to get a train/bus to Nagoya then nakatsagawa then bus to magome.
I�fm thinking now it might be better to hire a car in Matsumoto, drive to takayama (kamikochi on the way). Stay takayama and then drive back to Matsumoto to return the car and catch the train through the kiso called to a station close to magome then bus or walk.
It�fs all a bit convoluted, but which would be best?

At first, you come to the nakatsugawa eki mae, then board kitaena kotsu bus for mago me,you need 25 minutes,bus fare 570 yen
