Hello I thought of visiting Tsurunoyu Onsen in October. Is it affected by Tsunami? Is it near to Fukushima? Thanks for any advice! ^_^

Is it affected by Tsunami?Certainly not. It is at an eleavtion of 800 meters, 100 kilometers from the Pacific coast. Here are some basics about the tsunami: http://www.japan-guide.com/news/0018.htmlIs it near to Fukushima? It is 260 kilometers away. Radiation levels are not affected by the accident. On a related note, not far from Nyuto Onsen is Tamagawa Onsen with naturally radioactive stones that are a hundred times more radioactive than the normal natural radiation.

Thanks for your replies! ^_^
Is Tsurunoyu Onsen nice? I've been to Takaragawa Onsen and it's like the top best onsen in Japan. What is the next best near to Tokyo?

Is Tsurunoyu Onsen nice?Yes, one of the very best. Much bette than Takaragawa Onsen. But only if you spend a night there. Daytime visits can be terrible with large numbers of badly behaving daytime visitors. What is the next best near to Tokyo? What are you looking in an onsen stay? Water type? Atmosphere of the bath and surrounding? Atmosphere of the town? Quality of the ryokan? If it is water quality or town atmosphere, I recommend Kusatsu which has amazingly strong, sulfuric waters. And the town, although far from perfect, is one of the most pleasant around Tokyo: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7400.htmlIf it is quality of the ryokan, I recommend the Iwanoyu in Seni Onsen: http://www.hikyou.jp/nagano/seni/seni.htmIf it is the bath, Takaragawa Onsen is one of the best outdoor ones near Tokyo. Hoshi Onsen is one of the best indoor ones near Tokyo: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7463.htmlThe Sainokawara Rotemburo in Kusatsu is also very nice: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7402.html
