Is Suica Good Outside Tokyo 2012/1/29 08:20
I've seen the brochure and it shows Suica being accepted in the Kansai region, i.e. Kyoto, Nara and Osaka. But it doesn't go into great detail as to how or where -- it just shows the major routes as though they were train lines. I know Suica can't be used on JR Rail, so does that mean I could use it on subways and buses in Kyoto, Nara and Osaka? Anybody know?

In the Kansai Region, Suica can be used on JR lines and for purchases at shops that accept Icoca. It cannot be used on non-JR trains, subways and buses.

From spring 2013, Suica will also become valid on non-JR trains and subways in the Kansai Region.

I'm afraid you're wrong on all counts. You can use SUICA on JR lines and subways in Tokyo. Here are some reference pages
