Nagano-Matsumoto-Kawaguchiko 2012/3/28 11:15
I have 3 days and 3 nights to spare after arriving in Tokyo at 8 am and thinking of best way to cover Kawaguchiko, Matsumoto and Nagano. Will appreciate comments on following plans or suggestions for other alternatives (but must end at Matsumoto on Day 3):-

Plan A
Day 1 Tokyo-Nagano-Yudanaka (train), cover Zenkoji and Jigokudani
Day 2 Yudanaka-Nagano (train) and Nagano-Kawaguchiko (car), cover Daie Wasabi farm and Kawaguchiko attractions
Day 3 Kawaguchiko-Matsumoto-Kamikochi-Matsumoto (car), cover Matsumoto castle, Kamikochi

Plan B
Day 1 Tokyo-Otsuki-Kawaguchiko (train), cover Kawaguchiko attractions
Day 2 Kawaguchiko-Matsumoto (train), cover Kamikochi and Matsumoto castle
Day 3 Matsumoto-Nagano-Yudanaka-Matsumoto (car), cover Daie wasabi farm, Zenkoji & Jigokudani

Plan C
Day 1 Tokyo-Otsuki-Kawaguchiko (train), cover Kawaguchiko attractions
Day 2 Kawaguchiko-Nagano-Yudanaka (car or train), cover Zenkoji and Jigokudani
Day 3 Yudanaka-Matsumoto (car or train), cover wasabi farm, Matsumoto castle, Kamikochi

I would travel as follows:

Day 1: Shinjuku - (bus) - Kawaguchiko
Day 2: Kawaguchiko - (bus) - Kofu - (train) - Nagano - (bus) - Yudanaka
Day 3: Yudanaka - (bus) - Nagano - (train) - Matsumoto

Kamikochi requires at least half a day. Probably more if you want to venture beyond the Kappabashi.

Thank you, Uji-san for your advice. Noted your comment on Kamikochi and will reconsider.

Could you post the links for the various bus time tables for following:

Shinjuku to kawaguchiko
Kawaguchiko to Kofu
Nagano to Yudanaka
Yudanaka to Nagano

As we are arriving on Saturday morning, what's the best way to reserve in advance the bus tickets from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko.

Btw, is eating allowed on these buses?

Shinjuku to kawaguchiko

Kawaguchiko to Kofu

Nagano to Yudanaka

I made a mistake. If you go to Yudanaka, I actually recommend to use the Nagaden train rather than a bus (see Hyperdia). But if you want to go directly to the monkey park, I recommend the following bus:

There is an online reservation system that allows you to make reservations for Shinjuku-Fuji Highland. Fuji Highland is near Kawaguchiko:

Otherwise, if you are in Shinjuku before travel date, you can go to the bus terminal and make reservations there in person.

I am not sure.
